The Public Enterprise "Autoputevi Republika Srpska" d.o.o. Banja Luka is particularly proud of the successful implementation of the project for the construction of the "9.januar" Banja Luka-Doboj highway. There is reason for satisfaction and pride in abundance, because the aforementioned highway is among the highest quality and most economical European roads, and together with the E 661 Gradiška-Banja Luka highway, it forms the backbone of the highway network in the Republika Srpska.

The construction of the aforementioned highway took place through two projects. The first is the section from Doboj to Prnjavor, 36.4 kilometers long, which was opened to traffic on September 11, 2016. The contractor was a consortium consisting of the companies "Integral Engineering", Laktasi, and "Granit" Skopje. Financing for this section was provided through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as a grant from the European Union.

About sixty structures were built on the aforementioned section, the most significant of which is the “Bosna” Bridge, which connected the “9. january” highway to the highway on the Pan-European Corridor Five. In addition to the “Bosna” Bridge, the “Ukrina” Bridge, the “Slatinci” artificial tunnel, viaducts, overpasses, underpasses, the “Brkića voda” rest area, and the “Prnjavor” and Kladari toll stations were also built on the aforementioned section. In addition, as part of the project, the first Traffic Maintenance and Control Center was built, located in Kladari, near Doboj, from which the entire section is monitored day and night, and drivers are provided with timely information about the state of the road, driving conditions, and the like.

The entire construction operation of this part of the Republika Srpska was engaged in the construction of the second section of the "9. january" highway in the direction from Banja Luka to Prnjavor. The length of this section is 35.3 kilometers. What is interesting is the fact that the 10-kilometer subsection from Mahovljani to Drugovići was completed on this section in the fall of 2017, with several large structures, such as the "Mahovljani" and "Laktaši" viaducts, and the "Vrbas" bridge. The aforementioned road was put into operation on October 1, 2017, in order to enable drivers to avoid driving over the demanding Tutnjevac pass in the upcoming winter period, and to get from Banja Luka to Prnjavor and vice versa faster, easier, and safer.

At the same time, work continued on the rest of the Banja Luka - Prnjavor section, on which, in the end, about fifty facilities were built: two traffic loops "Drugovići" and "Prnjavor", viaducts, bridges, overpasses, the "Vrbas" rest area, the "Potočani" tunnel, a toll station, as well as the "Laktaši" traffic maintenance and control center.

The construction of this section of the highway was financed by a loan from the European Investment Bank and a grant from the European Union.

All of this was handed over to citizens for use on October 2, 2018, thus completing the story of the construction of a modern highway, which will, in the future, represent the transport backbone of the Republika Srpska.

After the installation of equipment, staff training, and trial operation, on November 1, 2019, a closed toll collection system was put into operation on all constructed sections, which meant that a total of 100 km of highway was under toll collection at that moment, while a total of 105.5 km of highway had been built.
