At the end of 2018, the Republika Srpska received the first concession contract for the design and construction of the Banja Luka – Prijedor – Novi Grad highway, the first phase, Banja Luka – Prijedor.

The contract was signed with the Chinese company “China Shandong International Economic & Technical Cooperation Group Ltd”, under which the Chinese partner should provide financial resources and prepare planning documentation and the Main Highway Project for the aforementioned section. At the same time, the Republika Srpska, for its part, has the obligation to resolve property and legal issues on the planned route.

The Banja Luka – Prijedor highway section is 42 kilometers long, and in the foreseeable future, it will go all the way to Novi Grad and the border with Croatia, and on one side, as a fast road from Prijedor to Kozarska Dubica and Donja Gradina.

The highway route begins in Kuljani, where it connects to the future Banja Luka bypass, i.e., the Banja Luka – Mliništa highway, with a T-type loop, and ends at the “Prijedor” loop, which provides a connection to the City of Prijedor. The “Omarska” loop is also planned on the route, as well as several bridges, overpasses, and underpasses.

The concessionaire has committed to designing, building, maintaining, and operating the Banja Luka – Prijedor highway for the next 30 years from the date of completion of the highway construction, and the works, despite initial difficulties in defining the route, are proceeding at the planned pace.
